Purple Day was founded in 2008, by nine-year-old Cassidy Megan who has epilepsy herself with the help of the Epilepsy Association of Nova Scotia, Canada.
Epilepsy affects over 50 million people worldwide That's more than multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and Parkinson's disease combined. Purple Day is an International grassroots effort dedicated to increasing awareness about epilepsy worldwide.
What is Epilepsy? It is a tendency to have recurrent Seizures / Convulsions or in layperson's term 'Fits'. it is a short-circuit of the brain. It is also called a 'Brainstorm'. Epilepsy can be controlled with Anti-Epileptic medications. It is not a contagious or mental illness. It is among the most common neurological conditions. But there are lot of myths surrounding epilepsy. There is stigma & the person feels isolated.
ChildRaise appeals to YOU ALL to Join us in the Purple Day to spread Epilepsy Awareness on March 26th 2011 by wearing Purple & participating in our Purple Events.
